Today was Shu-Mil 4-H Club’s annual Achievement Day. It featured the members of the club and what they accomplished throughout the 4-H year, as it displayed the non-livestock and livestock projects they worked so hard on. June 6 was the annual Community and 4-H Day at the Co-op Country Store in Milford. It featured a barbecue, pet photos, dog nail trims, 4-H petting zoo and excellent in-store specials. Better than that, it was all free! All donations collected went to Shu-Mil 4-H Club, of which Sam is currently a member of. Continue reading
The Nova Scotia Provincial 4-H Show is the biggest organized 4-h show across Canada, and this year, we got to be a part of it. It was held in Bible Hill, NS, at the Provincial Exhibition grounds. This is also where the GANS Summer Classic is held every August. This show ran from Friday, September 26 to Sunday, September 28, 2014. To compete at Pro Show, you need to have won Champion, Reserve Champion, first and/or second place in your class at the county level exhibition on 4-H Day. Continue reading

Today was Sam’s second 4-H Achievement Day, that took place at the Milford Recreational Centre in Milford, NS. Although none of the Summer Young goats were able to be shown this season, Sam still exhibited a Nubian doeling for Triple RT Farms in the Senior Showmanship class. The little doeling’s name was Penny, and was quite well behaved for her first time. Continue reading
This summer was our first time entering livestock in the ever-growing Halifax County Exhibition. Sam was scheduled to show on the first day of competitions, Wednesday, August 14, in the 4-H show. This exhibition is the qualifying show for all the 4-H clubs in the county of Halifax-East Hants, meaning that every project that placed well here got to go on and compete at the Nova Scotia Provincial 4-H show at the end of September. Knowing this, Sam tried her hardest to win a first or second place in all of her classes with the Summer Young goats.
Well, long story short, we bought two more goats. This goat thing is turning into a serious addiction.
On July 27, 2013, an ad for three purebred Toggenburg kids appeared on the Nova Scotia Kijiji website. Sam saw it and immediately began begging her mother to buy just one goat for her. Continue reading
